So you have seen the brackets, read the paper, studied the stats, and watched the experts on TV. Time to fill out your brackets and show the nation how smart you are about the game of college basketball. Hardly an exact science, but someone, somewhere will get this right.  I always felt that you could pick out of a hat, or have your little sister pick which mascots she likes better and win an NCAA Tournament Pool as there appears to be no real strategy that works.  Only thing that is guaranteed is a few weeks of fun, excitement, heartache and tears…

I do have some questions for the readers and would love to hear some input under the comments section.

Do you fill out a bracket?  And if so, are you a one bracket or multiple bracket person?

Any special criteria that you choose when filling out the tournament bracket?

Do you let your heart sometimes take over and push some teams farther along than they should be because you are a fan or alumni?

What are your Final Four and sleeper for this year’s tournament field?

I know you are going to get mad at me, and tear me apart, but I do not fill out an NCAA Tournament Bracket. Several reasons for that. One, when I was at the University of Cincinnati, I was never “legally” allowed to, not that it always stops everyone. But the main reason is that I never really care who cuts down the nets, and really just want to sit back and enjoy some great basketball, not having to worry about a certain outcome to “help my bracket.”  Sure there a few teams I root for, but I have always enjoyed the tournament more without the piece of paper sitting in front of me.

    Dude
Didn’t you run a “bracket challenge” in high school????

No “units” were involved, of course, since that would be illegal.

Or am I getting people confused???

    Mike-
You are correct that I ran a bracket challenge on year in high school…But I didn’t enter one myself!!!!!!

    Corey,

Is John Bryk really your hero?

  4. Corey says:

    mackdaddy-
I really need to dedicate any entire week to posts about John Bryk and what he has meant to my career in baseball so far. “The Brykster” has tons of years of baseball clubhouse experience, mainly in AAA, and has always been there for me to answer questions, and ALWAYS to offer advice…Hero is a strong word, but you never know…

    Corey,

I did not know you were so talented. You are headed in the right direction. When do the Dragons start monor league games?

    Mackdaddy-
Thanks for the kind words…I guess you could use talented…As I tell people, I just try hard!!! Effort is half the battle…Like they say in the game of poker, “all you need is a chip and a chair.”

The Dayton Dragons will kick off their season at home, Fifth Third Field, on April 9th against the Great Lakes LOOOOOOONNNNSSSSS.

Can’t come quick enough…nothing better than opening day, no matter what level…

    Hmmmm

I guess that is where I was mistaken, I thought you had entered it too

How far will the buckeyes go, and which low seeds will advance?

One of the challenges I am entering determines points by multiplying the seed times the round, so if a 10 seed wins in the third round, that’s 30 pts

I figure the sleepers will be huge in those brackets

Seems like a really interesting format…never heard of that before…

The best formula for your bracket is to find the teams that you’ve never heard and see how good their coach is and see how long they’ve been playing together. For example, VCU and Siena both come to mind and are worth an inquiry but if there are new players then they might not be such a smart pick. As for coaches, guys bounce around after a few years and you may lose track. For example, say a coach was “banished” by the ncaa for a period of 8 years for giving a recruits family a bag chock full o’ cash. And we come to find that on “All Tourneys Eve” he now has his team locked and loaded to topple a giant. Would you have the audacity to pick the mid-major? I won’t tip my hand but I will say that the Big XII has more posers than a frat party. My last piece of advice is something that I learned a long time ago, you can put all the numbers you want in front of a name but if you know that a team is garbage DON’T PICK THEM!
