Today has to be the greatest sports day of the year.  Opening Day for the Major League Baseball season followed by the Division 1 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.  I really cannot imagine anything better.   It all starts with the Cincinnati Reds Findlay Day Parade and ends with CBS playing “One Shinning Moment” after the champion cuts down the net.

In a few hours I will head to Great American Ballpark to watch the First Place Cincinnati Reds take on the New York Mets.  Opening Day is great because every team has a chance at the playoffs, and it is a rare occasion where the ballpark is a sellout.  I have been very fortunate to attend every Reds opening Day since 1987, minus two that I missed.  I use to love being picked up from school early to attend opening day, watching all my friends by jealous of me.

To me, baseball is the greatest game in the world.  I love NOTHING more in the world than when my dad and I go to down to the park to watch a game.

The weather is supposed to be a bit cold, but nothing can take away from this special day.  It is a time where I can forget about everything and cheer the Reds on to a hopeful victory.  After the game I will race home to prepare to watch the Michigan State Spartans and the North Carolina Tarheels battle it out of the hardwood.  Then, back to work as I prepare for the Dayton Dragons home opener on Thursday.

Am I the only one who thinks this day is worthy or a National Holiday??

I think they should give the name of the holiday to National Corey Brinn Sports Day! You would get to go by helicopter from game to game to throw out the first pitch everywhere; coast to coast. What an idea. You are a genius

I agree, opening day of baseball is great-but I would argue that the last saturday in august is better (opening day of college football)

I should go find a sportsbar tonight in chapel hill to see all the looneys out

I still don’t know what is going on in a basketball game

When the ref blows his whistle, I’m always like “what just happened?”

I completely agree that it is the greatest sports day of the year. and then Chris H (never heard of him), saying Master’s later in the week, it’s a good point that that it may be the best week.
