A little snow and some brisk weather did not stop the Dayton Dragons from taking part in their first team workout of the 2009 season.  Although most of the players have been working out together for weeks in spring training, this was the first chance for the 25 man roster to be alone and prepare for the season opener on Thursday night at home against the Great Lake Loons.

The team got together at Fifth Third Field to move into their clubhouse and unpack their bags into the locker room.  After several different photo and video obligations, the team layered up for the cold outdoor weather.  The Dragons went through some team fundamentals before taking part in batting practice and some team conditioning.

The Dragons will have one more workout on Wednesday in front of local media before their first game.

Snow was lightly falling in the Dayton area in the mid morning, which frustrated a number of players who knew they would be working out outside. One Dragon who was happy to see the weather was starting pitcher Matt Fariel.  Fariel, from Florida, had never seen snow in his life and was very happy to see some, althougth light.

Fariel attended Florida State University and has been use to the warm southern weather.  He has been mentioning to me for weeks how he is looking forward to seeing some snow, and finally got his wish. I bet Fariel will rethink wanting cold conditions when he takes the mound.

Did you serve cheesecake to the dragons? I like skyline, do you ever buy that for the clubhouse? Also, where is your office?

I have not served cheesecake yet to the Dragons players, but did serve during the Futures game, and it was a big hit. Skyline Chili is great stuff, but not sure how the players will like it…Maybe i will try it…do you recommend coneys or 3-ways?

I do have an office in the Dragons clubhouse…Needs to be organized but i will be tomorrow…
