Leaving on a charter bus…
Posted on 05. Jun, 2009 by Corey in Dayton Dragons Baseball, General Baseball.
Following tonight’s contest against South Bend, the Dragons will have completed a 10-game, 11-day home stand. After that, it’s time to hit the road for a two-city, eight-game trip with four games each in Midland, Michigan and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Following typical travel plans, we will be leaving tomorrow morning and get into Midland in plenty of time to check into the hotel, grab some lunch and then head to the ballpark for batting practice before the game against the Great Lakes Loons.
While today the players and coaches will focus on the evening’s game against South Bend, I will have to turn my attention to the road trip, packing all the supplies that the team will need for eight games. I have to make sure that all the players’ road uniforms are laid out in their lockers and ready to be packed. Aside from uniforms, I will prepare all the necessary equipment like bat bags, warm-up balls, hitting net and balls, laundry bags, food, etc.
Each piece of equipment that goes on the road trip will be assigned to a particular player, who will be in charge of it from the time the team leaves the stadium until the team returns to Dayton.
Most players carry two bags with them on the road. One is called a “field bag” and has everything in it that they need for the game like gloves, batting helmets, jackets, socks, etc. The other bag is a “personal bag” that will be going with them to the hotel. After loading all of those bags under the bus, it’ll be time to pick a seat and be on our way.
Please check back and follow the Dragons as we are on the road for the next eight days. If you have any questions for me or the any of the players, or a story idea for an upcoming post, feel free to email me at clubhouse@daytondragons.com.
