The Dayton Dragons are opening a three-game series in Clinton, Iowa, at Alliant Energy Field to take on the Clinton Lumberkings. Clinton was the site for this year’s Midwest League All-Star Game. The Dragons were represented at the game by catcher Kevin Coddington and pitcher Matt Fairel.

Alliant Energy Field was built in 1937, and has seen some renovations over the years, recently adding a new home clubhouse in left field. Capacity at the park is around 4,000 fans.

Before the 2006 season, the stadium underwent $3.7 million in renovations, replacing the entire field lighting system, building a new home clubhouse, installing new drainage tiles, renovating the covered batting cages and expanding both dugouts.

According to their website, more than 200 players have appeared in the Major Leagues after playing in Clinton. Clinton also remains as the only charter member of the Midwest League, belonging since 1954.

Back in the late 1990′s and as recently as 2000, Clinton was actually Cincinnati’s second Class-A affiliate, meaning that LumberKings vs Dragons games in 2000 were actually intra-squad games for the Reds system. Due to some rule changes disallowing that practice, these days, the Reds second Class-A affiliate is the Sarasota Reds in the Florida State League. The LumberKings are now an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
