And this won belongs to the Chiefs…

All my life I have heard athletes talking about “being in a zone.” I never truly quite understood the meaning of that, wondering if all “zones” were good, or there could be bad “zones.” Is it something an athlete can bounce in or out of, and how do you really know if you are in one? Tonight during my co-ed Adult League Hockey game, I found out what being in a “zone” felt like.
Ask me the reason that was in this “zone,” and I can give you a multitude of answers. It could be the frustration of the bad game the night before, it could be the will to win my first game as a team member was so strong, or it could be the sugar free Red Bull I chugged minutes before stepping on the ice. Whatever was the cause, I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.

Game Puck I picked off the ice following our win
Stepping onto the ice against the Dragons, I had a good feeling right away. The Dragons, our opponent for the night, was wearing white hockey jersey’s with a Red Dayton Dragons style logo on it. It was an exact replica of our baseball teams, and for their sake I hope our front office never catches wind of it because it could be breaking some copyright laws.
For the second straight night we had a substitute goalie, Thomas. Thomas was a thirteen year old and was about 6 foot 2 inches. Yes, I wrote that right, a “13″ year old. He played awesome and helped keep us in the game.
The first period was played even as neither team scored. I put one in with a hard wrist shot early in the second period to make it 1-0, a lead we would never give up. The entire team really played well as we went on to win 5-3. Dave C. scored a goal on a nice shot from just inside the blue line, and I was so happy to see him so happy. He skated right up to the scorekeeper to make sure he got his name in the book. Nice job Dave!
I would give our most improved to Matt N., who I thought played a great and much improved game from the first few times out. I did feel bad for him as he had to go back to work following our game.
The mood in the locker room was great after the game as my teammates congratulated me on a great game. One team member said, nice job with the hat trick (scoring three goals in a game.) I said thanks, but I thought I only had two. I actually had to check and confirm with a few more teammates that said I did indeed score three goals. I honestly had no idea and chuckled to myself. That is how I knew I was in my “zone.”
First hat trick of my life, and first win as a Chief…I can get use to this…

Sorry i had to miss this one. Will you ever forgive me. ha ha
Man, you’ve even got matching pants!
Next up?
Matching Mitts?
I mean, you gotta look good to play good right?
Most of my equipment is so old, but I will use it until I can’t anymore. Broke a skate rocker a few weeks ago. Not a fun process trying to find one that fits skates from 1995!!!
