Dayton Dragons Outfielder Byron Wiley told me that two of his childhood friends are playing for the West Michigan Whitecaps, who are in town to play at Fifth Third Field for a three game series. Wiley said he has known pitcher Nathan Newman and outfielder Michael Rockett since he was eight. The three grew up together in Texas and have played many games against one another.
“It is great to see those guys again. We were all pretty close back in the day and it is great that we are all still playing and chasing our dreams of playing in the big leagues.” Wiley went on to tell me he wishes them luck, but not to much as he wants his Dragons to get the victories in the games.
