My 1st Dragon in the Bigs
Posted on 29. May, 2010 by Corey in All, Dayton Dragons Baseball, General Baseball.
Late last season I wrote an article (HERE) about waiting to see the first player I had in Dayton make it to the big leagues. At the time I had a few in AAA, but known were even on the Major League 40 man roster. As this season opened, quite a few were placed on the 40 man, and more than a handful opened up at AAA Louisville.
Several days ago, Enerio Del Rosario received a callup to the Cincinnati Reds, making him my first. I was so happy and excited to hear that he would was placed on the big league roster. Such a great kid who has come a long way.
I had Del Rosario in 2008 in Dayton, and he bounced between the starting rotation and the bullpen. Del Rosario was studying the English language every day, and was coming along slowly. At times it was hard to communicate things to each other, but Del Rosario had another way of showing emotions, with body language.
A day did not go by where Del Rosario did not enter the clubhouse and give me a high five and a hug. He was always very appreciative of everything that went on that season. Twice throughout the year, Del Rosario was promoted to High-A Sarasota, but for some reason struggled on the mound. He was sent back to Dayton each time, and again dominated for the Dragons.
The 2009 season went quite different, as Del Rosario pitched great at each level ending the season in AAA. And with a great start to 2010, he made his appearance in the big leagues. He may go back and forth a few times this season, but he can always say he made it.
It has been great seeing Del Rosario each spring since during training camp, and see how he is progressing with his English and learning the culture. I will never forget the end of the 2008 season. We had lost in the second round of the playoffs at South Bend and bussed back to Dayton. Quickly everyone cleaned out their lockers and headed home for the Winter. Del Rosario was one of the last ones to leave as he stayed around to hug each and every player and staff member with a tear in his eye.
A great kid, and proud to say Del Rosario is my friend and a Major Leaguer that I once had in Dayton in Low-A ball…Can’t wait to see who my next player will be…

Your boy Del Rosario looks solid…… Saw him warming up at Wednesday’s Reds game. Kid can throw. Took a couple of videos of him…..
