Kevyn Feiner was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of Sun Prairie High School (Wisconsin) in the 18th round of the 2005 amateur draft.  That season, Feiner made stops with both the Gulf Coast League Reds and the Billings Mustangs.  In 2008, Feiner was assigned to the Dayton Dragons where he spent the entire season appearing in 79 games.  Currently, Feiner is with the High-A Sarasota Reds and was kind enough to take a few minutes to answer some questions.

Corey Brinn:  The Cincinnati Reds asked you to stay in extended spring training after training camp broke to work on a few other positions to make yourself more versatile and valuable.  How difficult was the transition after playing second base the last few seasons?

Kevin Feiner: It’s always different playing a new position. But the more games you play there you learn how to position yourself for different situations and you start to feel more comfortable.

CB:  You have recently joined the Sarasota ball club and have been asked to play back at your natural position of second base.  Has working out at all the other positions helped you out so far this season?

KF: I think so. Playing second was a big change to me when I came into pro ball because I was a shortstop my whole life before that. I’m starting to get used to second base and am a lot more comfortable there than I ever was. Other positions bring different arm angles and footwork so I think that could only make me better by doing things like that.

CB: How great has it been to be able to play with so many of the same players each season as you all advance levels together?

KF: It’s a blast playing with guys that you’ve played so long with. Baseball players are around their team more than their family, so you learn a lot about guys. It’s also good to see players get better and better as you move up the ladder.

CB: This spring you got the chance to go through training camp with your older brother Korey.  How was that experience for you?
KF: Playing on the same team as my brother was fun. We help each other out a lot and he always gives me good advice. He’s very knowledgeable in the game of baseball, so whenever I have a question he helps me out.
CB:  You spent the entire 2008 season as a member of the Dayton Dragons.  What about the city of Dayton made the experience so special?
KF: Obviously, I think the fans make that city and ballpark what it is. Seeing that many people at a baseball game is really a fun experience. I’m a midwest guy being from Wisconsin, and it made me feel a little more at home when I play in midwest cities like Dayton.

CB: What do you miss most about Dayton and the Midwest League as you travel around the Florida State League.
KF: I do miss the weather. The FSL is very hot and humid. It rains just about every day and you hardly ever get to take BP. And I miss the Midwest League fans.
