South Bend Silverhawks Stadium, The Cove

We just got back for the ballpark following a double header at The Cove.  Both games were very close, but the Dragons dropped both, the second on a walk off homer in the bottom of the 8th (Double headers in the minors are only 7 innings).  The temperature was very cold and the wind made it feel worse.

I am not a huge fan of the field or the clubhouse at the Cove.  I have been told that when the place opened in the mid 80’s, it was the best in minor league baseball. I don’t think they have done much to it since.  I did a full picture review of it last season.  To see the article, click HERE.

The outfield wall has been redone within the last week and they still need to repaint the retired numbers and championship banners. I have also been told they are replacing the net behind the plate very shortly.

Tomorrow the Silverhawks are wearing pink camofloage jerseys in honor of Mother’s Day and breast cancer awareness.I will try to get some shots of the jersey’s to post tomorrow.

Here are a few more pictures, but make sure to click here to see all the rest.

“I dont care if Im Cy Young or if Im the 25th man on the roster. If Ive got that ball in my hand and m out there on that mound, thats not your mound. If you want to run across the mound, go run laps in the bullpen...If my grandmother ran across the mound, shed hear the same thing he heard. Period.”
